Miss Lisa’s Book Review – Veterans Day

Well, here we are finding ourselves coming into an absolutely wonderful time of the year! Can you feel it in the air? I can—that sense that so many wonderful things are brewing. It started with Halloween, and now we are moving onto the next holiday, Thanksgiving, and what comes after that? I can’t remember! (Just Kidding!) Yes, Christmas! All around, in shops, school and maybe at your house you are preparing for the wonderful holiday season. We talked last week about having a home to be thankful for, and family. I’m sure all of you, can say you are thankful for that.

However, friends, there is a day coming this Friday that allows us to think very importantly about something else we have to be thankful for—our country. On Friday November 11th we will be celebrating Veteran’s Day, where we honor those men and women who have served in the United States armed services like the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines. It is a day where we are thankful because it is these people who protect our country and keep it free, and that is a wonderful thing! Perhaps someone YOU know, a friend or relative, is a service person. Say a hearty “thank you” to them today.

There is a wonderful book that you can read as we think about Veteran’s Day called “America’s White Table” by Margot Theis Raven. It is a great, meaningful book that talks about some of the ways we can honor those men and women who fought for our country’s freedom and keep us free by protecting it, putting themselves in harm’s way everyday. What brave men and women! Also, consider “Pepper’s Purple Heart: A Veteran’s Day Story” by Heather French Henry. It’s a great read and will help you be thankful this November for our country…”the land of the free, and the home of the brave.”

Sincerely,

Miss Lisa
