Hello, my friends, from the jungle at Amazone this first week of August! I can’t believe how fast the summer is progressing, and August brings a wonderful past time to our cities that we enjoy! As a matter of fact, here in our town of Medina Ohio it is happening THIS WEEK! Can you guess what it is? I will give you a few clues:
1. You can see a lot of great animals, some are even champions!
2. There are many wonderful snacks, games and rides.
3. You can see many great displays, entries of bakery and crafts, and many, many awards!
4. The lemonade is to die for!
If you guessed the county fair, YOU ARE CORRECT! This is a long tradition in America; some cities have been having a county fair for over 100 years! It is a great family and community event with much to see and do, and this week’s featured books are centered around the tradition of the fair.
Fun at the County Fair (A John Deere lift the flap book) by Dena Neusner is a creative book perfect for young readers ages 3 – 6 and has great pictures and illustrations. Kids will enjoy lifting the flaps to learn all that Johnny Tractor and his friends have to do to get ready for the fair! For our older readers, County Fair by Laura Ingalls Wilder, illustrated by Jody Wheeler tells the true story of a young Almanzo Wilder and the tradition of the county fair in the late 1800’s, including an unbelievably large pumpkin that finds its way there from the Wilder farm.
Friends, there is only a little bit of summer left, don’t forget to spend some of it with a good book! And, after you read about it, see all the wonderful things about the fair for yourself…maybe I’ll see you there…sipping a home made lemonade…YUM!
Take care my friends, and have a wonderful week. And don’t forget, if you want to “beat the heat” we would love to play with YOU here at Amazone!
