Apples and pears are in season and they taste amazing! Families can easily visit an orchard together and get some great apples to take home. Apples are ripe when picked, so you can eat them right away. There are many varieties, try some new ones if you can. Children are more apt to eat things they pick out. Also, pears are delicious; they need a day or two on the counter to ripen. They are ripe when they yield slightly to the touch. Many recipes that use apples are interchangeable with pears.
